Our Treatment Philosophy

At SkinHappy, we believe effective skin cancer treatment begins with early detection, education, and individualized care.

Every treatment plan is tailored to factors such as:

  • The type and location of the lesion
  • Size and depth
  • Cosmetic considerations
  • Overall health and medical history
  • Previous skin cancer history
  • Long-term prevention goals

Our focus extends beyond treatment alone. We work with patients to improve awareness of UV exposure, support sustainable sun protection habits, and create long-term monitoring strategies to reduce future risk.

Understanding Skin Cancer

Skin cancer develops when skin cells are damaged, most commonly from cumulative ultraviolet (UV) exposure over time. While some skin cancers grow slowly, others can become aggressive if left untreated.

The most common forms include:

Basal Cell Carcinoma

The most common type of skin cancer. Basal cell carcinoma often develops on sun-exposed areas and may appear as:

  • Pearly or shiny bumps
  • Non-healing sores
  • Pink or irritated patches
  • Areas that bleed easily

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Often linked to long-term sun damage, squamous cell carcinoma may appear as:

  • Rough or scaly patches
  • Tender or crusted growths
  • Thickened lesions
  • Non-healing sores

Melanoma

Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer and can spread if not detected early. Warning signs may include:

  • Changing moles
  • Irregular borders
  • Multiple colors within a lesion
  • Rapid growth or evolution
  • New dark or unusual spots

Actinic Keratoses

These precancerous lesions result from cumulative sun damage and may progress into squamous cell carcinoma if untreated.

Skin Cancer Treatment FAQs

We evaluate and treat many common forms of skin cancer and precancerous lesions, including basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and actinic keratoses.

Many skin cancers are highly treatable, especially when detected early. Outcomes depend on the type, size, depth, and timing of diagnosis.

Mohs micrographic surgery is a specialized technique used for certain skin cancers that removes cancerous tissue layer by layer while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. Patients may be referred for Mohs surgery when appropriate.

Warning signs include asymmetry, irregular borders, multiple colors, changes in size, bleeding, itching, or rapid evolution. Any changing lesion should be evaluated by a dermatologist.

Yes. Individuals with a history of skin cancer are at increased risk of recurrence and developing additional skin cancers, which is why regular monitoring is important.

Many medically necessary skin cancer evaluations and treatments are covered by insurance plans. Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and treatment type.

Yes. While risk increases with age and cumulative sun exposure, melanoma and other skin cancers can occur in younger adults and even teenagers.

Daily sun protection, avoiding tanning beds, routine skin examinations, and early evaluation of suspicious lesions are among the most effective ways to reduce long-term risk.
